The Stassen Project
Below are political memorabilia items from the campaigns of Harold Stassen. Where they are identified by year, a credible source has provided evidence. The un-dated items have yet to be proven, but many theories abound. Stassen ran for and was elected Governor in 1938 and reelected in 1940 and 1942. He gave the keynote address at the 1940 Republican convention and ran seriously for President in 1948 and 1952. He ran not-so-seriously for President in 1964, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992. In addition, between 1958 and 1990, Stassen ran for Governor of Pennsylvania, mayor of Philadelphia, U.S. Senator, Governor, and Congress. Perhaps it might have been easier to list the offices for which he didn’t run.
